A large stock of unsold cotton in the South acted as a break on the market yesterday, halting the upward movement. New crop influences did not appear sufficiently disturbing to the cotton trade generally to create a demand broad enough to carry on the advance.

HOYLAKE, May 27 (Associated Press).--W.I. Hunter of the Walmer and Kingsdown Golf Club is the champion amateur golfer of Great Britain. Today in the final of the championship tournament, played over the Hoylake course. Hunter defeated Allan Graham of the Royal Liverpool Club, 12 up and 11 to play, in a 36-hole contest.
