Suit Names Cable Unit

The successor to the bankrupt Financial News Network Inc. announced yesterday that it was suing Telecommunications Inc., the nation's largest operator of cable television systems, saying it had interfered with FNN's 1990 attempt to sell a major asset, the Learning Channel. Data Broadcasting, the Manhattan company that took over much of FNN's assets, is asking for triple damages of $26.5 million in a Federal suit contending violations of the Sherman Antitrust Act. The suit is a class-action lawsuit on behalf of all shareholders in the Learning Channel, of which FNN owned 47 percent.

They had not had a chance to read it, but never mind: with few exceptions they already knew they did not like it. The broad esplanade in front of the Supreme Court building was a milling marketplace of commentary just minutes after the ruling was issued. News releases, printed well in advance, were handed out as spokesmen and spokeswomen of various stripes spun from one knot of journalists to another.

KLH COMPUTERS ASKS AMEX TO HALT TRADING OF STOCK

KLH Computers Inc., operating under Chapter 11 of the Federal Bankruptcy Code, asked the American Stock Exchange to stop trading in its common stock and 8.5 percent debentures, effective last Friday. KLH said it could not comply with financial reporting requirements. It said it was unsure it would be allowed to resume trading because it did not meet Amex financial guidelines for listing. KLH closed Friday at 15.625 cents a share. Houston-based KLH, which supplies low-cost computers to discount stores, filed for Chapter 11 in April after it was unable to renegotiate $5.75 million in bonds held by companies controlled by the investor Carl C. Icahn.

Bernard Tapie Finance will be a holding company with assets of only cash if it decides in the next few weeks to sell majority stakes in Adidas A.G. and other industrial companies, its finance director and acting chief executive said today. At a shareholders' meeting, the executive, Elie Fellous, said the company would use proceeds from the asset sales to make investments in other industrial companies.
